In their August 2008 issue, Consumer ReportsR reviewed and rated 11 countertop materials in their “Find the Best Countertops” review. In this, they recommended that consumers focus on material and not on brand when choosing a countertop. They determined that the best of the 11 counter materials they tested was quartz, a.k.a. engineered stone, stating that it was the best for busy kitchens and excelled at stain and heat resistance. Among the materials tested (in addition to quartz) were laminates, granite, butcher block, concrete, acrylic solid surfacing, and the “green” paper and resin materials.
